Hear is some sound advice: wear earplugs at a rock concert. This was my 11th Satriani show and 224th overall concert since 1984. Stevie Ray Vaughn was the first live gig I attended, as he opened for Huey Lewis & The News.

Now, all these years later, I brought my 13-year-old daughter and friend to this show, and we all wore earplugs. These kids were on their feet cheering and screaming, totally amped by the live energy. This was their first show, and they were grateful for the earplug requirement.

This show was most excellent, I loved the setlist from both Vai and Satch, and Bryan, Kenny, Rai, Philip, Jeremy, Dante . . . everyone was top-notch. This was a fun, fun evening with 3,600 people at the Hard Rock Live, Orlando. It's once-in-a-lifetime stuff. Can't wait to do it again!

Just LOUD! Satch and Steve Vai and the band members used in-ear monitors, but the house mix was louder than anything I've ever experienced. We all had planned ahead and had earplugs, but you could not listen for three hours to this and not get hearing damage without them. Just ridiculous volume. Really ruined the experience.

Had same experience with Dream Theater show at the Coca-Colay Roxy in Atlanta. Band has in-ear monitors, so they don't know and don't really care what the FOH mix experience is like. These kind of bands with virtuoso players really owe a better live listening experience to the fans.

And yes, I know..They'll blame it on the guy running the house sound system.
